Deadline for nominations is Friday, Feb. 28, 2020.

APA Services, Inc. (APASI) works on behalf of practicing psychologists to advocate for improved reimbursement of psychological services. To advance APASI’s advocacy efforts, APA’s Office of Health Care Financing (OHCF) invites self-nominations for psychology’s first-ever health care financing advisory group.

This new group will advise Stephen Gillaspy, PhD, senior director of health care financing, and APA’s representatives to the American Medical Association’s CPT and RUC. The advisory group will partner with staff from the OHCF and Legal & Regulatory Affairs, the Board of Professional Affairs, and the chief of professional practice, among others. Together this team will envision and align psychology’s financial strategies with clinical, operational, and business models, health care systems and marketplace economics. Ultimately, the advisory group will help to develop long-term strategies to prepare the profession for the future.

APASI invites self-nominations for psychologists with differing perspectives, diversities and expertise in the following areas:

  • one member: psychotherapy expertise
  • one member: psychological testing expertise
  • one member: neuropsychological testing expertise
  • one member: integrated care/HBAI expertise
  • one member: hospital practice expertise
  • two members: independent practice expertise
  • one member: group services expertise
  • one member: Medicaid expertise
  • one member: commercial payer expertise

Additional members (one per group) will be selected from the APA Board of Professional Affairs, Committee on Rural Health, and Taskforce on Serious Mental Illness/Severe Emotional Disturbance.

Self-nominations should include a CV and a statement (no more than 500 words) describing the candidate's expertise and qualifications relative to the goals for the advisory group described above. APASI hopes to appoint at least one early-career psychologist. Advisory group members will be appointed for an initial two-year term, with the option of extending their appointment one or two years so that terms of service will ultimately be staggered in length. Members are expected to participate in one-hour virtual monthly meetings, travel to Washington, D.C., for one face-to-face meeting in 2020, and commit additional time and effort to the group in between these meetings. Questions can be directed to Stephen Gillaspy, PhD, via email. Nominations and supporting materials should be directed to Towhanna Boston via email. The nomination deadline is Feb. 28, 2020.
