APA Services joined 262 health services and primary care research organizations in a letter urging Congress to fully fund the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ) at $500 million in fiscal year 2027 (PDF, 205KB)opens in new window. AHRQ, the nation’s primary engine for health services and primary care research, increased investment to accelerate the adoption of evidence-based practices across public health and clinical settings, improve patient outcomes, and help the system keep pace with rapid changes in health care delivery. The letter’s signatories emphasized the need for sufficient staff to meet its statutory obligations.
In the letter, coalition partners pointed out that the lack of federal investment in this research has left the United States at a disadvantage in improving health outcomes. Federally funded health services research grants aim to identify care models that can deliver the greatest improvements in patient outcomes. AHRQ produces the evidence that informs decisions across the health system. It is the vital link between medical advances and everyday care, helping ensure Americans receive the highest-value care possible.
APA Services will continue to advocate for AHRQ, including urging strong congressional oversight, given the agency’s unique role in advancing patient safety, improving chronic disease management, reducing health care costs, and supporting access to high‑quality care.
