APA has submitted comments in response to a Request for Information from the National Institute on Drug Abuse (NIDA) on the draft outline of its Strategic Plan for Fiscal Years 2021–25. APA’s recommendations (PDF, 97KB) highlight stigma’s devastating impact on those suffering with mental health and substance use disorders (SUD), animal models, longitudinal research, the Science of Behavior Change program, vaping, race and justice-involved populations, prevention, the needs of military personnel, veterans and their families, and racial disparities in the funding of Black scientists. APA’s comments were informed by the input of our member scientists and will be considered as NIDA drafts a plan that will guide its research priorities for the next five years.
