On Aug. 16, Rep. Lauren Underwood (D-IL) introduced The Child Suicide Prevention and Lethal Means Safety Act (H.R. 5035) to address alarming suicide rates among children and young adults. APA CEO Arthur C. Evans Jr., PhD, was prominently featured in the congresswoman’s press release expressing the association’s enthusiastic support for the legislation. APA staff worked closely with the congresswoman’s office to provide psychological expertise in the drafting of the bill. The legislation provides funding for evidence-based training on youth suicide prevention to current and future health care professionals as well as safe storage gun options.
