In July 2025, the APA Committee on Rural Health (CRH) released a new fact sheet titled “The Current Landscape of Rural, Remote, and Frontier Mental Health in America” (PDF, 380KB)opens in new window. The fact sheet provides information about the populations within rural communities, as well as the array of barriers to accessing mental health treatment and help-seeking. APA Services staff provided guidance to CRH on the development of this document and will incorporate the data into future congressional outreach efforts to expand access to care in rural communities.

APA Services has also launched a Rural and Frontier Communities page capturing APA’s legislative efforts concerning access to care in rural communities, as well as directing members to efforts by their peers in CRH and the Division 31 (State, Provincial and Territorial Psychological Association Affairs) Rural Health Section.
