APA Services joined a coalition of 97 organizations urging the Department of Education and the Office of Management and Budget to act quickly to release and use remaining fiscal year (FY) 2025 funding for the Institute of Education Sciences (IES) before it expires on September 30, 2026. The coalition notes that about $289 million (36%) of the funding has not yet been apportioned to program accounts and is at risk of lapsing.

In its letter signed by 97 organizations urging release of FY 2025 IES funding (PDF, 193KB)opens in new window, the coalition stressed that timely action is still possible and necessary to allow proper planning and distribution of grants aligned with national and state education needs. The letter highlights that IES funding supports critical research, data, and services used by educators, states, and families.

If the FY 2025 funding is not allocated, the groups warn of serious, far-reaching consequences, including loss of essential services, reduced support for teachers, and less access to important data for families.

APA Services has also advocated for funding of IES in its FY 2027 testimony submitted to the House and Senate Appropriations Subcommittees on Labor, Health and Human Services, and Education (PDF, 242KB)opens in new window. We are deeply concerned regarding ongoing efforts by the administration to withhold funding and the resulting instability across federal agencies.
