On June 17, several members of APA’s Presidential Task Force on Police Use of Force Against African Americans met with the Government Accountability Office (GAO) to discuss the agency’s forthcoming report to Congress on policing. APA’s experts provided the GAO with the latest scientific research and data relevant to preventing police use of excessive force. The experts provided feedback on a number of evidence-established practices that numerous law enforcement and communities are currently engaged in to help GAO refine their forthcoming recommendations. GAO expects to complete its report within the coming months.
