Are many of your clients parents? Do you often speak to local parent and school groups? Now you can access APA resources which offer pointers to parents and teachers about potential signs and symptoms of emotional distress in kids and some steps to take to address those problems.
The materials were created as part of a new partnership between APA and the National Parent Teacher Association (PTA) to provide families with resources and tips on emotional and behavioral health issues. Resources include a webinar on “How to Tell If Your Kid Is Struggling Emotionally” and a tip sheet, “Talking With Kids When They Need Help.” More than 200 PTA members participated in the webinar held on May 4 which was led by APA members Mary Alvord, PhD, Laurie McCubbin, PhD, and Michael Southam-Gerow, PhD.
APA members and state psychological associations can download the tip sheet for distribution to clients and others in their community and can include a link to the webinar from their websites.
Additional joint efforts between APA and PTA include contributing psychology and behavioral health related articles to the PTA member magazine Our Childrenopens in new window and publishing guest posts from PTA and APA members to each organization’s blog.
