APA Services works to support researchers, educators, and practitioners contributing to our better understanding of how humans are impacted by and interact with technology now and into the future.

Our focus

  • Highlight impacts of COVID-19 on workers and workplaces
APA elevates evidence from Industrial and Organizational Psychology to address pervasive COVID-related mental health issues, ubiquitous telehealth and remote work hurdles, challenges to job satisfaction, issues dealing with workforce health and well-being.
  • Advocate for psychological science addressing greater prevalence of automation and technology
This work includes promoting science-driven policies from applied psychology to confront a workplace with widespread automation and artificial intelligence. Evidence from Industrial and Organizational Psychology informs our comprehension of personnel selection technologies, strategies to acclimate workers to new tools, and approaches to optimize human-automation interaction.
  • Support research investigating the disproportionate impact of workplace changes on certain populations
APA Services advocates for evidence-based practices including strategies to mitigate the mass departure of women from the US workforce and methods to improve the future of the care economy. Psychological research can facilitate recovery from the devastating impact of COVID-19 pandemic on vulnerable populations, including women broadly, and Black and Hispanic women in particular.

Our efforts on this issue advance the following advocacy priorities:

  • Funding and promotion of basic, clinical, and applied psychological research
  • Technology and behavior at work

Populations impacted by technology and behavior at work issues

I think AI is as much a cultural feature as it is technology. And I think we're trying to figure out as researchers, and as people who are subjected to these technologies, how is that going to change the world of work?
